In 1987, after working as a diamond mounter in London’s “Hatton Garden”, Paul Burkmar set up his own workshop supplying other manufacturers on a sub contract basis.  By 1998 Paul launched his first collection of his own 18ct Gold and Platinum designs that was to be stocked by approximately 30 shops over the next few years.

Yu Lan Su came to England from Taiwan in 1997 to study jewellery design. She was to be named as “Best Contemporary Jeweller” in her home country Taiwan whilst in the UK, in 2007 the “Best Emerging Designer in Platinum” and in 2011 she won “Best Design In Precious Metals” from the British Jewellers Association.

The quality of Yu Lans’ designs, often working from Anodised Aluminium or Britannia Silver, were a breath of fresh air to many shops and galleries that saw and stocked them. It was upon meeting Paul, with his manufacturing background that "Burkmar Jewellery" was formed the collection really began to take off.

Over 200 individual shops and galleries around the UK and Ireland have stocked from Burkmar Jewellery’s many collections. In 2012 “Argos”, the largest retailer of jewellery in the UK, featured Burkmar Jewellery in their catalogue in a new “Meet the Designer” section and Paul & Yu Lan have been invited many times to supply the prestigious Company of Master Jewellers.
